Ipswich Public Library and Topsfield fair Read and Win Program
Young readers are invited to register in person in the IPL Children’s Room until July 7. Rising Kindergarten through Sixth Graders are eligible. Readers set a personal goal for the number of books they will read or have read to them between June 9 and August 11, 2024 and keep track of their books on a reading log that the library will provide. Readers check in with the Children’s Room when they have met their goal. Winner’s Prize Packages include: *1 Admission Ticket (for readers over 8, children under 8 are admitted into the Fair free) * 1 Hot Dog and Drink Voucher that the winner can redeem once they are at the Fair * 2 Ride Tickets *Read and Win Ribbon *Read and Win Certificate
Summer Reading Kick-Off with cool music and a Spider-Hero!
Level Up for the Summer Reading Kick-Off on Wednesday, June 18, 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Ipswich Public Library. The Clemenzi Crusaders will entertain with music and videos including super hero themes, video game and classic TV tunes! Also, stop by for a meet-and greet and photo ops with a Spider Hero!
Drop-In Craft
Thursday Morning Craft! A Drop-In Craft program held Thursday mornings from July 17 to August 21 at 10 a.m. These crafts are intricate and challenging and are intended for school age children. Each child under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult caregiver to actively assist with the craft.
Vehicle Day and Hot Dog Picnic
Save the date for Vehicle Day and Hot Dog Picnic! Friday, July 25 from 10 am to 12 noon Police cars, fire trucks, construction vehicles and much more, in the parking lot of the Ascension Memorial Church! The Hot Dog Picnic is on the front lawn of the library and is sponsored by the Trustees and the Friends of the Library.

Children’s Summer Art and Photo Contest A new element this year!
Children’s Summer/Art Photo Contest for rising first through 7th graders. Weeks 1-3 comprise the photo contest. A specific theme is assigned for each of the three weeks of the photo contest. All photos should be emailed by noon on each deadline day to ipswichlibraryphoto@gmail.com. For themes and rules, please contact the Children’s Room Week 4 invites participants to submit either a photo of their choice or any other artwork– a painting; a sculpture; a textile craft like knitting, crochet or needlework; woodwork; or any other art form. Physical artworks are due during the final week of the contest and must be brought to the Children’s Room. There will be two categories: Ages 6-9 and ages 10-13. An art show and reception featuring all entries is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 5 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Books Clubs for rising third to fifth graders!
“I Survived” and “What Was” Book Clubs for rising 3rd-5th graders Thursday, July 17 from 3-4 p.m., Rising 3rd-5th graders are invited to read in advance I Survived the American Revolution by Lauren Tarshis and then come to the library to discuss it with their peers. We will be honoring the beginning of the conflict and its roots in Massachusetts with some birthday cake! Books will be available in the Children’s Room by June 15.
Thursday, August 7 from 3 to 4 p.m. Rising 3rd-5th graders are invited to read in advance and then come to the library to discuss What Was the Boston Tea Party?, part of the best-selling “What Was” series, as part of our look this summer at Massachusetts’ role in the American Revolution. Enjoy some excellent snacks and participate in an activity based on the book. Books will be available in the Children’s Room by July 7.
Summer Radical Reader for rising 4 to 5 graders Thursday, July 31 from 3 – 4 p.m. th th Pick up in advance a copy of the graphic novel Play Like a Girl from the Children’s Room and read before we meet to discuss! This program is open to rising 4th-6th graders. Enjoy some excellent snacks and good company! Books will be available by June 30.
Kid’s Trivia

Story Time
For caregivers with children ages 2 to Kindergarten. Adults interact with the child in their care while listening to stories, singing songs, dancing, drumming and participating in large motor skill activities. The story topic areas are often enhanced with creative flannel board art. This is a great program not only for parents, but for grandparents and their grandchildren or for caregivers who want to participate in Story Time with the children in their care. Siblings welcome. Friday, July 18 through Friday August 22 at 10 a.m.
Mother Goose on the Loose! At 10 a.m. An interactive early literacy program for caregivers with infants through 2-year-olds. Songs, stories, music and finger-plays for caregivers and babies to enjoy together. Ipswich Children’s Room staff are trained in the presentation of this renowned program. Registration is required. Siblings welcome. Tuesday, July 15 through August 19. Wednesday, July 16 through August 20.
Mother Goose Lap Sit At 9 a.m. This program is designed especially for caregivers with infants through pre walkers. An interactive program of songs, stories and finger-plays for caregivers and babies to enjoy together. Siblings welcome. Wednesday, July 16 through August20.
Music for the Little Ones
Monday July 14 and August 4 the library will host Music for the Little Ones with guitarist Eric Clemenzi, and his family band. This program involves singing and dancing for the young and the young-at-heart to favorite children’s classics.
